Hatfield House - Jacobean House & Gardens
Hatfield House is a Jacobean mansion and Tudor old palace built at the beginning of the 17th century. Situated in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, yet only 21 miles north of London, Hatfield House is now home to the 7th Marquess of Salisbury.
Elizabethan History
In or around 1485, The Royal Palace of Hatfield (situated in the West garden), was the childhood home of Elizabeth I. She also held her first council at the Royal Palace in 1558.
Things to see & do at Hatfield House
The Gardens at Hatfield House date back to the early 17th Century when Robert Cecil employed John Tradescant the Elder to collect plants for his new home. The West Garden includes a scented garden, herb garden and knot garden.
Visitors can enjoy the extensive Park surrounding the House. There is also a play area for children. Open Easter to end of September. The House is closed on Monday's and Tuesday's but the Garden, Park & Restaurant are all open daily throughout the visitor season.
Events & Programmes

Transport & Parking
There is plenty of free parking at Hatfield House. The Entrance to the House is right opposite Hatfield mainline train station, which is operated by First Capital Connect.
