Summer arrives and sad farewell to the Queen of Coltsfoot
June has been and gone. It was a very sad time for us all here at Coltsfoot as we had to say farewell to one of the owners due to her untimely passing. The wonderful Colette Kray was taken from us, very suddenly, on the 3rd of June. Last week her family, friends and all at Coltsfoot were able to say farewell formally at her funeral. Colette's popularity was never in doubt but we were blown away at the volume of people who attended the service at All Saint’s Church, Datchworth. Unable to accommodate everyone inside, extra seating was arranged outside and amplifiers in place so the service could be heard externally. Close to 300 came to both the Church and Coltsfoot afterwards. Colette was one of a kind - Elegant, Loyal and fun to name but a few of her characteristics. Colette touched so many people's hearts, it was be-fitting that so many people wanted to show their respects.
Coltsfoot is Colette's legacy, her tasteful eye for detail can be found all around the venue from tea light holders to wardrobes!
For anyone reading this who was unable to come and say farewell there was a request for no flower but donations to be made to Battersea Dogs Home or the RNLI in Poole Harbour. Colette spent a lot of her time with her husband, Ray, in Sandbanks hence the RNLI request.
If you follow us on Instagram (Coltsfoot Weddings) you will have seen our new glass shelters which have been tastefully branded to ensure there are no bumps to heads! These will serve well to shelter guests through an outdoor ceremony, should weather take a turn for the worse. The last two weeks have provided perfect wedding weather but it seems things are about to change. Luckily our Venue is fabulous rain or shine, even if we do say so ourselves. We are very proud of our Trip Advisor page and it has been great to receive more wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor in the past few weeks. Our 2017 Certificate of Excellence is in the post, fourth year on the trot.
On Midsummer’s Night we provided our Venue for a Fund Raising Event run by Victoria Wells, a local Fitness Instructor. The event was named ‘Pilates in the Paddocks’ and raised over £700 for the Sick Children's Trust charity. This charity helped my family whilst my very brave, three year old nephew endured months of gruelling chemotherapy after a brain tumour had been diagnosed. This charity provide accommodation on the hospital site so parents can stay with their children 24/7. My family used the Acorn House site based within the grounds of Addenbrookes Hospital. The event even made the local press, Welwyn Hatfield Times and there is a great article about Benny the Brave - whtimes.co.uk
We have had lots of Beautiful Brides and Handsome Grooms these past several weeks. It is always so exciting to see all the months of planning come to fruition, each wedding totally unique.
We have had the pleasure of welcoming some very talented photographers and florists too. When possible we try and share photos of the day to show how different set ups work at Coltsfoot. This weekend we had some very colourful flowers from Jenny @www.two-girls-and-some-flowers.co.uk on Saturday and Friday some gorgeous cream colours from Wendy @welwynflorist.co.uk.
Photography from Nikkilewisphotos.co.uk on Friday and the lovely Lindsey Brook brookphotography.co.uk on Saturday.
Gin is bang on trend at the moment and we created a 'Gin Bar'! We are always open to ideas and new suggestions so always ask us if there's anything you would like to add into your special day.
